They offer a fat velvety tone, outstanding intonation, and an amazingly efficient upper register. GR Flugelhorn Mouthpiece Backbores are balanced with each cup volume to produce a characteristic flugel sound with precise intonation. GR Flugelhorn Mouthpiece Cups are designed to produce a full velvet like sound that can easily be colored. These mouthpieces feature outstanding intonation, common to all GR Mouthpieces, and a very easy upper register. Contact us for information regarding the match to your flugelhorn. FL*** Models Similar to the FL models but with 10% more cup volume! If you are looking for the playability of the FL, along with an easy upper register but you want a more velvety sound, the FL*** Models are what you seek. These models may not play quite as accurately as the standard FL Models but you will be able to color your sound and attacks more easily. Want big? This is it!! FD Models The FD Flugelhorn Mouthpiece design is a unique new concept to improve the match for certain makes of flugelhorns. The FD design has a shorter overall length, a larger throat bore, more open throat entrance, unique new backbore, and new shank design. Used with a matching Flugelhorn the FD provides a beautiful sound, accuracy of articulation, exceptional intonation, as well as, even slotting throughout the range of the instrument. FD improves the match when using a more resistant flugel. The FD is an ideal match for Conn Vintage One flugelhorns. This shank may not engage into some flugels as far as the FL Mouthpieces. The Mystery of Flugelhorn Mouthpiece Tapers Solved! GR Flugelhorn Mouthpiece Backbores are balanced with each cup volume to produce a characteristic flugel sound with precise intonation. The FD can also be used in the trumpet to produce a softer more lyrical quality. Using the FD mouthpiece on the trumpet will require the tuning slide to be pulled out but will give your trumpet a lush, fat, flugel- like quality. Great for gigs where you simply don't want to lug your flugel along! *Caution - The shank may bottom out on certain trumpets; therefore, the gap should be inspected to insure the mouthpiece doesn’t bottom out . Contact us for information regarding the match to your flugelhorn. |

Flugelhorn Leadpipes Couesnon Flugelhorns are some of the most sought after flugels because of their characteristic sound and response. Unfortunately the most common problem with these horns is with the leadpipe. Problems range from mouthpieces not fitting correctly, to inaccurate attacks and questionable intonation.
Gary Radtke and Charlie Melk have worked together to develop a solution. The GR / Melk Couesnon Flugelhorn Leadpipe. This leadpipe accepts any standard GR taper flugelhorn mouthpiece. It will not accept straight "French" tapered shanks. Play testing this leadpipe showed immediate improvement in soft attacks and intonation. All aspects of the Couesnon Flugel were improved. Breathe new life into your beloved old Couesnon. Try a GR Leadpipe. Our Standard "In Stock" pipes have 4 7/8" of engagement into the horn. These can be cut to match your existing pipe. Please contact us when ordering. As Couesnon leadpipes vary in length, please measure the ENGAGEMENT of the leadpipe into your horn when placing your order. This measurement does not include the tuning nib on the receiver end of the pipe. GR /Melk Flugelhorn Leadpipes will also fit Olds Clark Terry Model Flugelhorns and Blessing Artist Models. |
