The Primal 62 Mouthpiece Are you a lead trumpet player, or a player who wants some core and edge to your sound, but you bottom out on smaller volume, high alpha angle mouthpieces? If so, then the Primal 62 may be an option. Basically the Primal 62 is a combination of a GR M and MS cup. The alpha angle feel is similar to an M but with slightly more support. The cup has a medium/high compression like the GR MS. This combination really screams but with a huge fat sound that can be sweet if you back off. The best thing about the Primal 62 is that it works incredibly well with the following GR backbores: The #2 Backbore was the original backbore. It provides a huge warm sound that can be powerful when pushed. This is the perfect backbore for tighter trumpets or for players who want a solid core to their sound, with fast response, but do not need an extreme upper register. Great for concert band and section work. The #1 Backbore provides the Primal 62 player with very fast attacks, a lower register that pops at very soft volumes, and an upper register that sparkles with a huge core. Ideal for all around lead playing. T-72S Backbore. Super fast attacks, high compression, an effortless extreme upper register that commands any ensemble, plus fast attacks and secure slotting all over the horn. If you happen to play a cup diameter that is larger than the GR 62 (.620"), you can special order a "Primal " setup for your diameter. Primal 62 Z The GR Primal 62 Z is a standard GR rim just like the Primal 62, same alpha angle as the Primal 62, but with the GR "Z" style cup. If you really like to rip and don't have a problem with a smaller cup volume, definitely check this one out. The chop room of the Primal with a Z cup makes for a devastating combination. |
